Baby Talk
January 2012
The first word in advertising and PR from Design At Work.

There's Something 'Bout You, Baby.

5 Ways to Kick Off 2012 Marketing With a Bang
The start of a new year usually means changes, technology updates and new ways to market your business. Here are some ideas to get you started!

1.	Change it Up
If you're in need of a refresher, the start of the new year is the perfect time. For example, if you've sent emails to your customers before, why not change it up and send a well-designed eBlast, followed by a direct mail campaign to keep them engaged? Following up or doing the unexpected can help your business stay ahead of the competition and always top of mind.

2.	Make it Personal
If you haven't met most of your customers face-to-face, now is your chance. Consider holding informative seminars or luncheons to introduce new product features or services your company has to offer. Giving people a face to remember is key to keeping your business on the right track.

3.	Stay True to Your Brand
Many companies don't realize the power of meaningful brand recognition. This year, make a point to stay true to your brand image. Do your customers know you because of your colors, graphics or imagery? Having people recognize your company's image and core message will help you rise above the competition.

4.	Create, Don't Alienate Fans
Social media is a great marketing tool, but it shouldn't replace traditional advertising techniques. If you use social media solely as an advertising outlet, your fans will be more likely to hide or unsubscribe from your company's posts in the future. Sure, getting the word out is great, but sometimes all it takes is posting a random quote about your industry or a little-known trivia fact — those gems will engage people much more than ubiquitous sales pitches.

5.	Don't Underestimate the Opt-In
Giving your customers the chance to 'opt-in' at all contact points is a great way to keep them engaged and informed. Is your email or eNews sign-up box located 'above-the-fold' on your website? Do you give them a chance to opt-in on your eBlasts or drive traffic back to your homepage? Having customers choose to receive your emails is a beautiful thing — don't underestimate its power.
Baby Genius:

We've said it before, and we'll say it again — we have the formula for your success. Here's an example of how we helped a baby go from crawling to running in no time.

Depco Power Systems, a client that sells new and used generators and power equipment, attended the 2011 Power-Gen International Tradeshow in Las Vegas. Power suppliers and manufacturers in the energy sector from all over the world attended the annual show. Depco's goal was to establish themselves as the 'used' generator supplier and the solution was found in a catchy, 'used car lot' theme. To help Depco stand out among a sea of other tradeshow booths, DAW drove traffic via pre-show eBlasts, great Vegas giveaways (one lucky winner got to meet the cast and crew of The Blue Man Group), signage and free goodies that all revolved around a central theme. As a result, Depco made meaningful connections and were able to collect more email opt-ins to follow up with potential customers after the show.
