Lookin' Good, Baby!
The Good, Bad and Ugly About Graphic Design.

Beauty is everything — at least, that's true for marketing and advertising. It's not enough that your product or service is outstanding, your copywriting is flawless or even that your branding is consistent. If your marketing collateral is, well, ugly, a potential customer may get the wrong impression about your business. When first impressions are crucial, you can't afford to let bad graphic design drag your business down.

There is a direct correlation between the appearance of your marketing collateral and your perceived brand image. What are some of the common impressions potential customers derive from unattractive marketing? Dull. Backward-thinking. Lacking inspiration. Cheap. Amateur. Got fresh, creative, visually appealing marketing? That tells customers that you're savvy, innovative and your product or service is of high quality. 

Here are a few graphic design tips, straight from the Design At Work pros.

Have a design strategy. Think through an entire project before you start. What will the piece be used for? Who are you targeting? How will a particular design capture customers' attention?

Less is more. White space is good. Clutter is not.

Strike a balance. Distribute design elements evenly to avoid marketing materials that appear lopsided.

Bigger isn't always better. The size of the type should be in relation to the importance of the information conveyed. If all type is large, it blends together and nothing stands out.

Choose color wisely. What colors are associated with your industry? What are your competitors' colors? How does a particular color enhance your brand image? What does this color look like on your logo?

We've said it before, and we'll say it again — we have the formula for your success. Here's an example of how we helped a baby go from crawling to running in no time.

Devereux Texas, a non-profit facility specializing in the treatment of emotional, developmental, behavioral and psychiatric disorders, recently held its 10th Divots for Devereux Golf Classic. Design At Work, a 10-year sponsor of this event, created the 10th anniversary logo, eBlasts, flyers, signage, program, presentation slideshow and press releases. Our team also contributed some great silent auction prizes and (some of) our team's golf talents. As a result, Devereux raised more than $83,000, its highest amount ever, for the Devereux Texas School and Scholarship Program.

Kirby's Growing!

BIG news — our baby's getting bigger! The DAW family is growing, and so is our client roster. In order to accommodate more staff and continue to provide the top-quality customer service you expect, our office is expanding. We've added 12 new office spaces, a second conference room and a new lounge area — with a karaoke stage and larger bar, of course. Once all the drilling, hammering and painting is over, we'll have more than 7,000 square feet of office space.
